Esoteric systems suggest we are made of light, energy, or consciousness. Basically intelligence which is a spark that incarnates into matter by developing a living breathing system around it. Core Energetics suggests that as we are born and develop, our body reflects our emerging consciousness. Both the initial spark which incarnates as well as the experiences occurring during the development of the psychological and spiritual being that we are.
Because of this, we can learn to read and understand each other by looking at the way the body is organizing itself.
Although our child rearing practices have evolved as has our understanding of child development, children still experience the world in specific ways that then organize into their physical makeup. Primary feelings like fear, and rage are initially very difficult for a baby to process in the body.
Prior to the development of language, we are in a direct experience with our basic needs in the body, or basic experience, and the outside world. As the frontal lobes develop, and language acquisition occurs, we begin to think and to experience the results of our thoughts rather than direct experience.
Into our thoughts emerges our basic images, and ideas about reality. If we have felt terror and hostility in our experience and our environment, we will have a very different physical organization than a child who felt comfort attunement with the environment.
In the esoteric traditions, this spark of light, intelligence and consciousness "attracts" the family and the experiences it needs to challenge itself to grow and to evolve. Basically, we evolve through challenge and need an optimal level of frustration to emerge into our strength,.
Core Energetics focuses on the body, the emotional system, the thinking, and the spiritual tasks of each person which wants to emerge in each incarnation. Basically, by opening the body to a free flow of undefended energy, the emotional system opens and becomes able to process all the held feelings that went into the unconscious unknown experience of self. We look at the misconceptions held in thought, basic images, ideas, beliefs that are not based on truth, but on the developing child's understanding. Through working on these levels, energy and consciousness begins to emerge from the Core of a person bringing forth intelligence, freedom, and gifts learned through many lifetimes of development and experience.
Although I am a traditionally trained therapist, and university level instructor, I have studied this esoteric system of transformation for almost twenty years. Through reading the body, therapy moves forward quickly and easily rather than spending years talking which remains primarily on the level of the thinking, the ego, and not deep enough to support real change quickly and without unnecessary suffering.
The core of each of us, where our basic essential self is free flowing, is a place of well-being and pleasure. It understands and is comfortable with pleasure and self-regulates it's own energy system through charging and discharging taking pleasure in sexuality, in creativity, and in relationship with all that is. Different spiritual practices, body centered practices, and psychologoical systems attempt to help through each of these levels. Core Energetics works with all the levels simultaneously, and as a result requires extensive training and practice while each therapist is expected to heal themselves and change their own organization experiencing their own Core and working with others to do the same.
